Ragtime was first released in 1988 as a pen that combined an appealing classic design with precious materials and attention to detail at an affordable price. The pen takes its name from the musical genre that emerged in the late 19th century, regarded as a precursor to jazz, reflecting the pen’s traditional yet happy and carefree style.
The new Ragtime Anniversary is a numbered limited edition with the number of pieces based on the year Visconti was established: 1,988 fountain pens, 1,988 rollerballs and 1,988 ballpoints. The barrel and cap, with their slightly revised design, are turned from a solid bar of Acriloide, a variety of celluloid with intriguing shadings of color. The clip, with its typically vintage look, has remained the same, however, apart from being engraved with the pen’s new dates. The cap is made as a solid piece and externally force fitted with two solid 14-karat gold bands to reinforce it, using a traditional technique well known to Visconti. Also made of 14-karat gold, the nib is available in F, M, and B widths.
The first thousand pens of each type sell in a set, contained in a luxurious case. Along with the fountain pen, ballpoint and rollerball are three stones (an onyx, a pearl and an tiger’s eye) and a tool to fit them to the cap top of each pen. This is the My Pen System, a new idea from Visconti that, as well as different stones, lets you customize your pen with your initials and Western or Eastern zodiac signs.
